Time for a picnic!

Springtime is upon us! What better way to celebrate the season than by planning a picnic with your family or friends? Here are some of our favorite ideas for a simple and tasty picnic.

1. Mason jars are a fun way to package your picnic items! Salads, pastas, drinks and even desserts can be stacked or layered in jars. Keep dressings at the bottom of the jar and shake just before eating!

2. For easy transport, pack individual lunch boxes for your crew.

3. Why not try a new sandwich topping? We love these ideas from Parents magazine.

4. We love finding a healthier take on traditional snack foods. Kale chips are the perfect picnic snack!

An update...

The rain might be around for a while, but we’re springing into spring at CookingThyme! If you’re looking for a fun Spring Break activity for your kids, our Italian Cooking Camp is just the thing. Where else can your kids enjoy making fresh pasta and homemade marinara sauce? Not to mention tasty fruit crostata and chocolate-chip pound cake. We have plenty of other spring classes up on our website, and we’ve also listed them below.

I’m excited to announce the launch of our first-ever afterschool programs, beginning in April at Scouters Mountain Elementary School in Happy Valley (grades 1-5) and Touchstone School in Lake Oswego (grades K-3). The eight-week program runs for an hour after school one day a week. Each class will include hands-on instructions for 2-3 recipes as well as an overview of beginner kitchen skills. I am thrilled to be spreading the message that food matters to elementary students in our community. If you’re interested in a CookingThyme after school program at your local school, contact me.

There’s quite a bit going on behind the scenes at CookingThyme, so keep watching for updates in our emails.

Thanks, as always, for being a part of CookingThyme,

P.S. Have an idea for a class that you would love to take? Send us an email! Or, gather a group of 6 people, and we’ll set up a custom class for you!
